Your Guide to Modern Kitchen Cabinet Options

    By Gulfstream Homes | Custom Homes, Kitchens | Comments are Closed | 13 September, 2019 | 1

When you’re tackling a major renovation project or building a new custom home, one of the main rooms that you will need to customize is the kitchen. After all, most of the family will be spending a lot of time in this area and it needs to be functional as well as beautiful. A big selection you will need to make for your kitchen will be the cabinets, and that means you may need to sift through a lot of options to find what will work in your space. In the days of adding a modern, contemporary appeal to the home, the kitchen is no exception. Here’s your guide to modern kitchen cabinet options.

    Open Up the Space

Open shelving is making its way to the top of many designers’ lists recently. As we seek to open up our homes by way of open floorplans, open showers and more, it makes sense that the kitchen will be impacted by this as well. Open shelving provides a fantastic way to showcase your dinnerware, fine China, décor and more, and has the potential to add ample style to this oftentimes lackluster area of the home. Decorate the space with some added extras like:

    • Wine bottles

    • Fruit bowls

    • Mason jars

    • Greenery

    • Decorative pieces

The key here is to keep the extra décor to a minimum, especially if you have a small kitchen as you’ll need that space for important kitchen items. Adding too many ‘extras’ to open shelves can also cause the space to look cluttered. Oftentimes, less is more.

    A Rustic Look

Although we may think that wood paneled cabinets went away in the 70’s, a new breed of them has emerged. Oak wood is making its way into many modern kitchens and can normally be found in beautiful light and medium shades. Keeping the stain light helps to keep the space bright and can even make it appear bigger. Paneled cabinets give the space dimension and texture, and it also has a versatile look, depending on how you stain it.

    A Clean, Crisp Appeal

As we strive for a more modern look in the home, perhaps nothing says it better than clean white cabinets. White shaker cabinets with simple, yet sleek handles keep the clean lines continuing into the kitchen and provide a simple, classic appeal to this area of the home. Pair your modern white cabinets with luxurious white quartz counter tops for an even more contemporary feel.

    A Translucent Touch

Translucent glass cabinets help give the space that open look that many homeowners and designers like, but without going all the way. With a frosted glass appearance, translucent cabinets can still showcase your collectibles and dinnerware, but adds a muted look them. This options is unique and is embraced by many designers who like the open concept look, but want to take it in a different direction.

    Finding the Perfect Cabinets

Maybe you didn’t realize how many choices you have when it comes to selecting the cabinet options that work for you. Our tip here is to focus on the style of the home and design a kitchen to match both that style and the functionality that you are looking for to create a space that works. When it comes to your kitchen, it’s important for it to be designed how you want, so that it’s easy spending time making memories in it.

The team at Gulfstream Homes is ready to help you build or remodel your kitchen to make it beautiful and functional! Call (239) 254-1664 to get started.
